The little town of
Pirenópolis
was built in 1727, When a leader of a group of
garimpeiros
(stone miner) arrived in the region with the mission of discovering new deposits of
gold
.
The old former mine of
Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Meia Ponte
became a camp of garimpeiros and experienced a development related to this activity.
The workforce consisted of
black slaves
and
Indians
who still live today in the region. It has become a land without law, marked by
authoritarianism
,
violence
and denying any remuneration of taxes.
Tourist village marked by the imprint left by the
slavery
as
evidenced
by the alleys of the city built by the slaves.
